General functionality
The Behnke Station sends status reports in the form of UDP broadcasts in its network area at regular intervals. These broadcasts contain information about the call status (e.g. "device is in idle", "incoming call from number x", "number y is being called", etc.). The software processes these status messages and reacts accordingly. For example, when the Behnke Station initiated a call, the software can automatically open a window with the video from the Behnke Station's camera.
Since broadcasts are not routed, it may be necessary to set certain parameters so that the functionality of the software is given. For more information, please refer to the configuration guides on this page.
Licensing and Additional Features
The basic functionality of the IP video software (requesting the video of the camera manually and automatically show the video when a call is triggered at the Behnke Station) can always be used free of charge on any number of computers for an unlimited period of time. However, there are various additional features that have to be unlocked with a license. These licenses are valid for three workstations. If you install the license on more than three computers, the additional functions are still only available on three computers. If you want to use the functions on more than three computers at the same time, you will need more than a single license. The following additional functions can be activated with a license:
- Door opening via PC (a door opener button is displayed in the video window)
- Pause function to suppress automatic video pop-up windows
- Saving an image or the video stream during calls
- Logging when the door is opened (when you click on the door opener button, an image with date and time is saved automatically)
- Video multiplex: displaying the video streams of up to 16 cameras simultaneously, including recording. The video data is saved in a proprietary format and can be exported to formats supported by Microsoft Windows. The encoders required for this must be provided on site.
System Requirements
- PC with Intel® Pentium® IV processor or AMD® Athlon® processor or better
- Network card, configured
- Microsoft® Windows 2000® or Windows XP® operating system or higher
- 256MB RAM or more
- Monitor/graphics card with a resolution of at least 800x600 pixels and true color display
- Depending on the selected resolution and compression, up to 6 MBit/s bandwidth is required in the network for the transmission of the video
Used Ethernet Ports
| Port | Protocol | Direction | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80 | TCP | Sending | HTTP, for retrieving the video, is usually activated |
| 8080 | TCP | Sending | HTTP, for retrieving the video from current Behnke Stations with a USB camera or an IP camera configured as a system camera |
| 4005 | UDP | Receiving | Detecting the cameras in the network |
| 8112 | UDP | Receiving | Detecting the Behnke Stations, status reports from the Behnke Stations |
| 8113 | UDP | Sending | Remote controlling the Behnke Stations (e.g. door opener) |
| 53322 | UDP | Receiving | license check |
| 8255 | TCP | Sending | Connection to the server component |
Installation directory
The IP video software does not create an installation directory. The software consists only of the .exe file. When you run the file for the first time, you will be asked whether you want to autostart the software. If confirmed, a copy of the software is placed in the user's startup apps directory. Otherwise, the software must be started manually from the location you specified.
You can find the current user's startup apps directory here:
%appdata%\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Start-up
Configuration location
The configuration of the IP video software is stored in the Windows registry under the following path:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Behnke
WARNING:Please note that the configuration is only saved for the currently logged-in Windows user. If several users are to log on to the same computer and work with the software, the configuration must be made for each user. Alternatively, the registry keys created by the software can be distributed via a group policy in Active Directory. This must be done by an on-site admin.
Camera types in the IP video software
Depending on the local conditions, it can sometimes happen that the cameras in the network are not automatically found by the video software. In these cases you'll have to add the cameras manually. The correct camera type must then be specified for each camera, otherwise the software cannot retrieve the video. The easiest way to find out which camera you are using and which camera type has to be specified is by using the MAC address. Below you will find an overview of the different camera types:
| Camera type | Port | MAC address |
|---|---|---|
| Behnke-Station Camera | 8080 | only for newer Behnke Stations with system camera, i.e. with USB camera or with an IP camera integrated as a system camera (see the web interface of the Behnke station > Network > IP camera > "integration as") |
| AXIS®/B-Smart Camera | 80 | AC:CC:8E:XX:XX:XX 00:40:8C:XX:XX:XX B8:A4:4F:XX:XX:XX |
| Behnke IP-Camera | 80 | 00:50:C2:XX:XX:XX |
| Behnke Smart-Camera | 80 | F8:1C:E5:FX:XX:XX |
