Configuring the intercom group of a Behnke Station

BEHNKE-STATION version6.56current: 6.33Machine-translated

This setup guide describes how to set or change the intercom group of a Behnke Station.

An intercom group logically combines outdoor and indoor stations into a shared intercom system. Outdoor and indoor stations within the same group can communicate directly with each other.

A Behnke IP intercom system can be divided into up to 9 intercom groups.

Note

In simple installations, usually only intercom group 1 is used.

Multiple groups are mainly useful when different areas of a system are to be logically separated from each other.

1. What effect does the intercom group have?

The intercom group determines which devices logically belong together.

For example, all devices at a main entrance can be assigned to group 1 and all devices at a delivery area to group 2.

Gruppe 1
├── Außenstation Haupteingang
├── Innenstation Empfang
└── Innenstation Büro

Gruppe 2
├── Außenstation Anlieferung
└── Innenstation Lager

An indoor station automatically displays the detected outdoor stations of the same intercom group in its phone book.

Direct dialing of an indoor station via its intercom ID also initially refers to its own intercom group.

2. Changing the intercom group via the web interface

  • Open your browser
  • Go to the web interface of the Behnke Station
  • Log in

Behnke Station – Web interface, login page

  • In the sidebar on the left, click the menu item IP Intercom

Web interface menu item IP intercom, intercom group

  • Look for the option Group
  • A value between 1 and 9 can be set for the intercom group.
  • Click Save to save the configuration

The Behnke Station is now assigned to the selected intercom group.

Important

Devices that are meant to work directly with each other must be assigned to matching intercom groups.

If, for example, only the outdoor station is changed from group 1 to group 2, it no longer belongs to the same group as an indoor station that still uses group 1.

3. Setting the intercom group during initial configuration

If the Behnke Station is still in its factory default state, the intercom group can also be set during initial configuration.

For an outdoor station, this can be done using the configuration button.

After selecting the operating mode Sprechanlagenmodus (intercom mode), you are asked for the desired intercom group.

The following applies:

1 Mal drücken → Gruppe 1
2 Mal drücken → Gruppe 2
3 Mal drücken → Gruppe 3
...
9 Mal drücken → Gruppe 9

After the selection, the setting is saved.

Note

For a device that has already been configured, the intercom group cannot be changed again using the configuration button.

A later change is possible via the web interface or configuration mode.

4. Intercom group of an indoor station

For an indoor station, the intercom group is also set during setup.

For an indoor station with a display, the desired group can be selected directly during initial configuration.

Selecting intercom groups in the initial configuration of the indoor station

Make sure the indoor station is assigned to the group in which the associated outdoor stations are located.

5. Checking the group assignment

In systems with multiple Behnke Stations, the group assignment can be checked via the topology of the IP intercom system.

The topology is located under the menu item IP Intercom

There, the detected Behnke Stations and their assignment to the individual intercom groups are displayed.

Web interface menu item IP intercom, Topology section

This is particularly helpful if multiple groups are used or a station is not found as expected.

6. Calling an indoor station in another group

Normally, within the same group only the intercom ID of the indoor station is used as the call number.

Example:

ID 2 → Rufnummer 2

An indoor station in a different intercom group can also be called.

For this, a three-digit call number is used:

[Gruppe][zweistellige ID]

Example:

Gruppe: 2
ID: 1

Rufnummer: 201

The call number 201 thus addresses the indoor station with ID 1 in intercom group 2.

Note

The use of multiple intercom groups and cross-group connections is covered in more detail in a separate setup guide.

7. Summary

The following basic rules apply to the intercom group:

  • every Behnke Station belongs to an intercom group
  • possible groups are 1 to 9
  • the default is group 1
  • outdoor and indoor stations of the same group can communicate directly with each other
  • outdoor stations of the same group are automatically displayed in the phone book of an indoor station
  • a later change is possible via the web interface or configuration mode
  • indoor stations of other groups can be addressed via a three-digit call number
